These state of the art IFA passenger/vehicle ferries link Prince of Wales Island with Ketchikan, Wrangell and Petersburg. The vessels were designed expressly to serve the island communities of southern Southeast Alaska. Daily passenger/ vehicle service between Hollis and Ketchikan by the M/V PRINCE OF WALES was inaugurated January 15, 2002. The new M/V STIKINE inaugurates service on the northern Coffman Cove-Wrangell-Petersburg route May 18, 2006. IFA vessels connect with Alaska Marine Highway System ferries at Ketchikan, Wrangell and Petersburg. The Northern Route servicing Coffman Cove, Wrangell and Petersburg has been temporarily closed for the 2009 season.
Specifications for both vessels include a length of 198 feet, breadth of 51 feet, passenger and vehicle decks, a bow thruster, power provided by twin 1500 horsepower diesels, with a service speed of 15 knots.
